Systems Under Review Winter 2009

In this section we will be reviewing premium systems that are regularly advertised throughout the gambling and betting fraternity.  Due to the amount of time taken up with our own premium systems, of which all work, we will only ever review 2 systems per month as this is all that is feasible to provide a correct and accurate review on both the systems and the market conditions at the time of the trial.

The Legacy system

The Legacy system has been around in various forms for donkey’s years and it’s still being marketed with the same enthusiasm. We’re told the original Legacy system was created by Stan Hibbert, but the current version was “delicately and critically fine-tuned by Systems Analyst Dave Simpson to make it even more potent.”

As with most promotions from Fleet Street Publications, the advertising copy is very impressive. Well written and enticing. However, as with most things from Fleet Street Publications, scratch the surface and things are not as shiny as they are meant to be.

The marketing focuses on how simple the system is and how the system has made an outstanding proven year on year profit between 1993 and 2001. We’re also told it’s the “perfect "lazy way to make money"... month in. month out...”

The system

The system is well presented .  It covers all the basics with information on what resources and websites to use. Not quite the usual filling because this system appears to be aimed at those punters who are still green behind the ears who need help with the basics.

The system starts by explaining the virtues of a simple paper based method. It makes light at the need for complicated computer based methods when the simple old-fashioned methods still work the best. This sounds very appealing, especially to those who are new to the field looking for something simple that won’t take them long every day.

It is also potentially misleading.

The world’s largest gambling syndicates either have a seriously in-depth knowledge of the field that will only come with years of experience or highly sophisticated computer models that are able to outsmart the bookies. At the end of the day, that is what you are trying to do, outsmart the bookie. We’re not trying to find an endless stream of winners at any price, that will never happen. We’re looking for value, just like any other speculative activity. We’re looking for those horses that are 2/1 but really should be 8/13.

Results

Incredibly, for a system claiming such a pedigree, there is no breakdown of the results. We’re given headline annual figures but no indication of which horses and what prices were used to make up these profits. The one good thing about the Legacy system is that it is fairly mechanical, meaning I could use the custom favourites statistics on the Adrian Massey website to check if it actually did work in the past as claimed.  Contact me for the link to the Adrian Massey Stats page and I will happily forward to you

Using the Massey site  you can input all the criteria exactly so it matches the instructions in the manual and see what your results would have been like since as far back as 1995 Unfortunately you can’t test all the races in one go, because different racecourses have different criteria, but you can group them together to get an overall picture.

By inputting the criteria EXACTLY as instructed you get the following results for race courses where you should bet on 2 year olds, 3 year olds and upwards. The following results are for races where you bet in 2-year-old races only.

2 Year olds only at selected flat courses.

There is a quote from a magazine that purports to have done some research on the system:

"After researching the past 8 years results, we found winning runs of
1 x 18; 4 x 11; 13 x 7; 27 x 8 and over 50 winning runs of 9. Prepare yourself to be truly astonished - The system is worth its weight in £20 notes, and really puts the punter in the financial comfort zone! In our test, The Legacy© wins with its ears pricked and plenty in hand. Good VFM and no ongoing costs!"

Business Opportunity Magazine

I’ve never heard of Business Opportunity Magazine, and a quick look at their website didn’t exactly fill me with confidence that they know what they are talking about. Technically, they are correct, there have been runs that large, but the Business Opportunity Magazine fails to put out if it has made any further analysis on the systems profitability beyond its losing runs.

SUMMING UP

The results above are only partial. They are for flat races only and do not include all the racecourses, however it does represent about 80% of the possible flat venues. To be completely honest when I saw that I realised there was no point doing any further analysis. If the amazing clever systems analysts didn’t realise that the system doesn’t work on the courses we have reviewed so far

We inputted the criteria EXACTLY as specified in the manual and found that the system does not work. There may be some successful years, but over the years you are highly unlikely to make any profits whatsoever.   On saying that some people on the forums swear by it and claim it makes regularly profits.  From our point of view, we would leave this one and look at other alternatives that we will be reviewing in the very near future

Upon a review being above average I will continue to review it and report back and may even in the blog post the days tips live in the morning then people can view it with their own eyes.   As the site is new, your input would be appreciated.

Systems to be reviewed in the month on March are as follows:
